I would like to redo the day, starting at noon, please. It started off not so bad. On the way back to work after lunch, it dawned on me that I couldn’t remember if I closed down WoW or not before leaving. If I didn’t, no biggie. Not really, anyway.
Then, I see a squirrel attempting to cross the street. I slowed down so it could get out of the road. Squirrel decided to go back the other direction, so once he was safely up the curb and on the grass, I SLOWLY hit the accelerator again. When I was almost where it was - the danged thing decided “Wait! No! I want to cross the road after all!” and jumped out in front of my car. I hit the breaks, but it was too late. There was just no way that I was able to stop in time before hitting him. Sigh. It’s the first time I’ve ever hit a squirrel, and I’ve got some major guilt going over it, even if it was a stupid one who jumped under my tires.
THEN! I get back to work, sit down, and get my can of Slimfast out. I started sorting things on my desk to get ready to get back to work, then I picked up the can of Slimfast and start to shake it up. Only… I’d forgotten I’d already opened the can. So a stream of chocolate slimfast went flying - all over my desk and all over my shirt. Thankfully 99.9% of my paperwork was out of the way, and didn’t get hit. There was only a very minimal amount that hit anything electronic as well, so no worries about it screwing something up. But, now I have to walk around for the rest of the day, with massive brown stains all down the front of my shirt. They’re all over the shirt, so there’s no way to hide them. Sigh.
Just… FML.
Mom and I were able to go look at the 2 townhomes for sale today, that I had posted about before. Unfortunately, we aren’t going to be getting them.
The two houses are owned by an elderly woman, who just lost her husband. She wants to just empty the houses and move closer to her kids now. When we first got there and walked in, I actually thought it was going to happen. I figured that the lower price was because she was just hoping to sell quick so she could move. The house was really nice, they’d added tons of extra cabintry for storage, the kitchen appliances were all fairly new and would come with the house. It was in great condition, would just need a little bit of cosmetic work, as well as a new water heater. Not bad at all.
The two houses are side by side, and they’d knocked down the fence between the two, so you could just walk out the back door, across the patio, and into the other house. Having that fence gone also made the 2 little patios look a lot bigger since they were combined.
Well, after checking out the first house, and my hopes soaring up through the roof, we walked across the patio into the 2nd house. It doesn’t just need a little work - it needs a TON of work. It looks like they had just started a complete remodel on it before the husband passed away. The floors are completely bare, so they would need to be carpted or tiled. It needs a new air conditioning unit, as well as a new furnace. There were a couple water stains on the ceiling that would need some work. It would need all new fixtures in the kitchen and bathrooms. This unit was being sold at a dramatically lower rate of $32,000. But, we guesstimate it would likely need about $30,000 worth of work done. So the savings would be completely negated by the work. Plus, the condition it’s in now - it would be a while before either of us could live in it.
Sigh. It sucks quite a bit. It would’ve been nice to have my own house, yet still have mom right next door in case I ever needed anything. Oh well. Guess it’s just not meant to be.
I posted in twitter a little bit ago that there is a very slim chance I might be getting my own place, so I figure it’s time for details. A couple of months ago, mom and I went and looked at some townhomes in a neighborhood (very) close to where we live. A couple of mom’s coworkers live in this same complex, and they say it’s a nice area, very quiet. The houses we looked at were nice, but possibly a little small for the two of us together. If it was only one of us living in the townhome, it would be enough space. Sure, it’d be enough space for most people, but what can I say? We’ve been spoiled by having just 2 of us in a two story house, with huge rooms. Today, one of her coworkers who lives there came in and told her that two homes there had JUST be listed. The two are side-by-side, and in fact the same family had owned both townhomes. Since they owned both, they had done some remodeling - which included a interior door that connected the two houses together. They “need some work done” and because of that, we could get them pretty cheap. The “needs work” could simply be the fact that if you didn’t want to buy both houses - you’d have to wall off that door, or it could be a whole lot more. Either way, the coworker thinks that we might actually be able to buy BOTH townhomes for roughly the same price as one we’d looked at before. That would be VERY cool, because even though I’d still be living right next door to my mom, and the houses would connect … I’d actually have my OWN house, and my OWN space. Mom is supposed to be placing a call so we can go look at these. I hope that happens very very soon, because if “needs work” turns out to be a LOT of work, I’d rather get my hopes crushed now, instead of after they’ve had time to really bloom. Haha.
